“Now therefore give me this mountain, whereof the LORD spoke in that day; for you heard in that day how the Anakims were there, and that the cities were great and fenced: if so be the LORD will be with me, then I shall be able to drive them out, as the LORD said.” Joshua 14:12
When Caleb was a young man, he was full of vigor and vision. He was ready to conquer big dreams and take a land that was promised to him; a land full of giants. It did not happen for him as he had planned. Some 45 years later, as an 80 year old man Caleb still had his eyes on his mountain.
This is is special day for me. 15 years ago I married the woman of my dreams. I was a young man full of vigor and vision. One such vision was to climb a mountain while on our honeymoon in east Tennessee. Mt. Leconte stands at 7000 feet, shadowing over Gatlinburg. We attempted, and we failed. We were just not able to complete the trek. The next few days we were sore and exhausted. We were not in very good shape, to say the least. Today, however, we are younger than we were 15 years ago. It’s true. I made a change in the direction of my life and got busy getting in shape. I always knew one day I’d return and take my mountain. Today is that day.
You’ve had mountains that you’ve claimed. Mountains that you’ve been promised. Something has scared you way or held you back. Maybe years have passed. Yes, maybe you’re older and you have your own giants facing you. Remember, that’s YOUR mountain. It’s yours for the taking! You may have to put in the work and change some aspects of your life. You may have to be patient as well. But, don’t give up on your mountain! Don’t let obstacles stand in your way. May the Lord be with you as you drive out your giants and inherit the vision you’ve so longed for.
